VET Hospitality Course - an amazing opportunity!
At Swan Valley Anglican Community School, students have the opportunity to be involved in the Certificate II/III Hospitality Traineeship over Years 11 and 12.
Demand for the course at the School is very high, with classes in Year 11 and Year 12 close to capacity. The course is suited to both ATAR and General students and teaches the trainees both Front of House, Back of House and specific Hospitality skills.
Utilising the skills taught by industry professionals during scheduled class lessons, Hospitality students work in the School Café on a rostered basis and are given the opportunity to work at school functions, including the Father’s Day Breakfast, Year 12 Valedictory Morning Tea and the Technology and Enterprise Visual Art Exhibition. This work is all paid for, as the students are employed by the School as School-Based Apprentices.
Year 11 student, Caitlin Whittle said “The Hospitality course allows you to be in a real life environment whilst still at school, which ultimately has made me feel more prepared for life outside the safety-net of my school community. We are treated as equals, and after a bad test score or a stressful assessment, I love being able to just walk into the kitchen and forget about it all for an hour. The atmosphere is so upbeat because we know as students that we are learning life skills that we can apply every day.”
