Excitement filled the air in the first academic week back to school at SVACS for a multitude of reasons. One of which was the highly anticipated Year 12 Ball which was held at AQWA on Friday 5 February from 6.30pm. After enjoying a day’s leave from school to prepare for the evening’s frivolities, the girls arrived in their sequinned, feathered and floaty dresses alongside the boys in their dapper suits.
The attending staff: Mr Bartell, Mr Racey, Mrs Davies, Reverend Bull, Ms Field, as well as the Year 12 past and present PCG tutors, Mr Lowndes, Mrs Corr, Mrs Gooden and Ms Sjepcevich as well as Miss Pope and Miss Eggleston came dressed for the occasion and all shared a wonderful evening with the Year 12 cohort.
The evening began with greetings from staff and “mocktails” in the foyer; followed by a short journey through the shark tunnel inside the aquarium’s ‘Shipwreck Coast’ tank. Here we awed at a selection of marine life including: turtles, stingrays and even a selection of sizeable sharks!
On the commencement of the evening proper, the staff and students made their way to their allocated seating in the Function Room, overlooking the beautiful ocean and dazzling sunset for a delicious dinner. The room was set out in blue and white and handmade place-cards decorated tables along with stunning centrepieces. Here we were welcomed warmly by the Principal, Mr Bartell, and a prayer from Reverend Bull. After socialising over their meals, the students took to the dancefloor and strutted their stuff in the hope of winning the “Best Dancer” award.
Soon the queues for the formal photographer and photobooth grew respectively and the students were keen to dance their night away to the sound great music which was enjoyed by everyone.
The honours of the evening were awarded to:
Most Elegant Girl: Jami Outram-Baggs
Most Chivalrous Boy: Mitchell Halls
Best Dancer: Chelsea Doolan
Cutest Couple: Jackson Christensen and his date for the evening Channing Whitworth.
All students represented the school in an outstanding manner and a huge thank you must be noted to the Ball Committee:
Eloise Hampshire, Hannah L’Herpiniere, Emily Worland, Chelsea Doolan, Georgia Donaldson, Molly Goard, Palavi Parmar, Henat Brar, Caitlin MacRitchie, Liahn Annamalay, Tayla Dicker, Elly McLachlan, Jami Outram-Baggs as well as Miss Kate Eggleston.
The celebrations which form the basis of much of this year for the cohort, continued well into the night. They shared many group photos, many laughs and created many memories together of their final year and time as part of the Swan Valley Anglican Community School family.
In the coming weeks, planning and organisation will begin for the 2017 Year 12 Ball.
