The Six Noongar Seasons

Early Years

In Year 1, students have been learning about the Noongar six seasons: Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang. Each season represents and explains the seasonal changes we see annually. The flowering of many different plants, the hibernation of reptiles and the moulting of swans are all helpful indicators that the seasons are changing. We have just entered the season of Makuru which is when Noongar people move inland to collect berries for winter. Makuru is a time of rain, wind and storms.
