Kindergarten Music Incursion

Kindergarten Music Incursion

The Kindergarten students have recently had a music incursion with the focus being on child-directed exploration of instruments through play and cooperative play activities. The aim of the incursion was to develop musical memory, to encourage turn-taking behaviour, cooperative music play, emotional and creative responses to music and to develop musical concepts of fast/slow, loud/quiet, and high/low.

The students played un-tuned percussion instruments outside and tuned instruments inside including wind instruments followed by a session of cooperative ‘orchestral’ music making. They enjoyed the very noisy sounds that the various types of percussions instruments produced including bongos, drums, African talking drums, ocean drums, cymbals, gongs, and a bell tree. This was followed by the softer more delicate sounds of string instruments which included thongophones, stamping tubes, metallophones, bar chimes, and tubular glockenspiels, banjos, violins, balloon bassoons, trumpets and many more.
