Refugee Week at SVACS

Refugee Week

The Refugee Council of Australia focused on the theme #With Refugees. Refugees make valuable contributions to society and Swan Valley Anglican Community School is proud to support the campaign which links to the Core Values of Compassion, Faith, Integrity and Service. The School places importance on educating students about refugees and the contributions they make within communities.

To celebrate Refugee Week, students participated in a range of activities, including poetry, making friendship bracelets, sporting events and watching a documentary. Students also heard from guest speakers from ‘Shout Out’ who shared their experiences and delivered powerful messages on freedom, democracy, identity and a sense of belonging.

Refugee Week has continued to broaden the minds within the school community. Many of the items made will be delivered to the Refugee Centre as a means of welcoming people to Perth. A special acknowledgement of thanks to the Humanities Department for their hard work in coordinating the event and to the School Captains who assisted in the delivery of activities.
