Marine & Maritime Scuba Diving

Secondary School

The Year 11 Marine and Maritime Science class recently attended their Open Water SCUBA Diving course with Perth Diving Academy, Hillarys. The course was long anticipated and students were keen to begin learning from the instructors. Over a very intensive three days, they learnt how to assemble and maintain their SCUBA equipment, how to use their equipment components during dives, and the various skills needed in order to SCUBA dive safely. Despite being regularly pushed outside of their physical and mental comfort zones, everyone persisted to the best of their ability. The final day of the course included two open water dives around Rottnest Island on the Lionfish IV charter boat. Students demonstrated how proficient their SCUBA skills had become and were able to enjoy the sights of the reef structures and marine life around the island.
