Year 9 tackled the very important issue of bycatch. Many animals such as dolphins die every day when they are caught in commercial fishing nets. This is a tragedy which, if left unchecked, will result in the decimation of many of our beautiful ocean creatures. Students were tasked with designing their own nets to help solve this horrific situation. Much imagination and creativity came out of this project.
In order to highlight alternate energy sources and their role in the protection of the ocean, Year 10 students were required to design and build effective elastic powered paddle boats. Students used ingenuity in designing their watercrafts. This activity served to highlight the importance of this often-ignored area in marine technology, and several students really excelled in ensuring their craft were well constructed and efficient!
