Science Week is off to a great start with our Year 8 students investigating how effective blubber is as a means of insulation for whales and seals. Students covered their hands in blubber and immersed them in icy water, measuring how long it took for their hands to become cold. They then compared the results without using blubber. The results confirmed that blubber is indeed a very effective form of insulation from the cold.
Year 7 students were tasked with designing and building a diorama showcasing a particular ocean zone. This helped students understand both the beauty and variety evident in our oceans. They could see that not only is the ocean a wonderful example of spectacular ecosystems, it is also necessary to sustain such a wide variety of life forms.
