Teaching and Learning
In the Middle Years we want our emerging adolescents to be
'creative, connected, and collaborative life-long problem solvers who are healthy, holistic human beings who not only contribute to but also create the common good.'
(Fullan, M. (2014) A Rich Seam: How New Pedagogies Find Deep Learning. P.2)
In the Middle Years we:
- Focus on personal excellence
- Create exciting and diverse learning opportunities that respond to this unique stage of growth and development
- Create a well-balanced learning environment which is relevant and enriching
- Welcome mistakes as we see this as evidence of learning and a growth mindset
- Want our students to be excited about the adventure of learning as we know they will have to be lifelong learners to thrive in the 21st century
- Focus on Literacy and Numeracy as we acknowledge these are fundamental skills
- Strike a balance between inquiry and direct instruction in a student centred context
- Seek to develop 21st century skills including but not limited to critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication and character
