School Psychologist - Primary School
Fixed-Term (6 Months Maternity Leave Cover) with possibility of extension
Commencing 17 August 2026 to 26 February 2027
We are seeking a graduate or experienced School Psychologist to join our Wellbeing Team. This is a fixed-term six-month contract with the possibility of extension, working predominantly with our Primary School students and occasionally supporting Secondary students where required.
The School Psychologist provides a comprehensive psychological service to support students’ learning, wellbeing and developmental outcomes, while building capacity within the school community. This role requires initiative, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to work with empathy and confidentiality in sensitive situations.
About the Role
The successful applicant will:
- Conduct psychological and psycho-educational assessments
- Provide individual and group counselling for students
- Deliver wellbeing and early intervention programs
- Collaborate with staff, families and external professionals
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate student records
- Support critical incident response and student wellbeing
- Contribute to whole-school wellbeing initiatives and staff/parent education
Selection criteria
- Hold (or be eligible for) registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist (provisional or general)
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology (minimum 4th year)
- Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Rights to work in Australia
- Demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent development, including mental health and learning needs
- Strong assessment, counselling and report-writing skills
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Capacity to build positive relationships with students, families and staff
Desirable:
- Experience working with school-aged children
- Membership or eligibility for the Australian Psychological Society
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Understanding of diverse learners and inclusive practice
