Our House system is one of the many ways students quickly feel part of Swan Valley Anglican Community School.
Houses are an important part of student life. From the time students join our community, their House provides a sense of belonging, encourages teamwork and school spirit, and creates opportunities for connection across year levels.
House identity is celebrated through House shirts, crests and flags, as well as sporting, cultural and wellbeing activities and special House Days. These experiences help students build friendships, develop leadership skills, support one another and take pride in contributing to their school community.
As our school continues to grow, we remain committed to strengthening student connection, participation and identity. From 2027, our House system will include six Houses, supporting balanced groupings and providing students with greater opportunities to participate, lead and contribute to school life.
Each House will have a new name and identity that reflects our connection to the Swan Valley and our commitment to Respect, Inclusion and Compassion.
We acknowledge that the land on which our school stands has been cared for by the Whadjuk Noongar people for tens of thousands of years. The names and symbols of our Houses recognise this connection to place and reflect the values that shape our school community today.
Our Houses are named using Noongar words for animals found in the Swan Valley:
- Koolbardi (Magpie) – Sky Blue
- Koomool (Brushtail Possum) – Gold
- Kwenda (Bandicoot) – Purple
- Wetj (Emu) – Royal Blue
- Yongka (Kangaroo) – Red
- Yoorn (Bobtail) – Emerald Green
Each animal is well suited to our local environment and represents qualities we value in our students, including resilience, adaptability, strength and community.
Through the House system, students are encouraged to get involved, cheer each other on and take pride in belonging to something bigger than themselves. It is a vibrant part of school life that helps every student feel connected, supported and ready to contribute to our school community.
