HEARTBEAT OF THE VALLEY: CELEBRATING PLACE AND PURPOSE
This year, Swan Valley Anglican Community School is celebrating a significant milestone as we mark our 20th anniversary.
Over the past two decades, our school has grown into a vibrant learning community, shaped by strong relationships, shared values, and a deep sense of purpose within the unique landscape of the Swan Valley. While our school’s story spans 20 years, we are ever mindful that we stand on land that has been cared for by the Whadjuk Noongar people for tens of thousands of years. Honouring this enduring connection to Country has been a central focus of our anniversary celebrations.
As part of this milestone year, we were proud to commission a large‑scale artwork by Aboriginal artist Richard Websdale, titled “Heartbeat of the Valley”. The artwork reflects the deep cultural significance of the Swan River as a place of life, ceremony, gathering, and knowledge‑sharing for Noongar people. It beautifully symbolises the enduring heartbeat of Country and recognises the vital role of its first caretakers. The original artwork is now displayed in our Boardroom, with a print welcoming students, staff, families, and visitors at the entrance to the Collaboration and Creativity Centre. It is a daily reminder of our responsibility to honour the story of the land on which our school stands and the values that guide our future.
To further mark our 20th anniversary, we also commissioned a special staff polo shirt incorporating elements of the artwork. Staff will wear this throughout 2026 and beyond as a visible celebration of our journey as a school and our ongoing commitment to place, connection, and reconciliation. This milestone invites us to reflect with gratitude, celebrate with pride, and look forward with purpose as we continue our shared journey together.
